Martin Kagel, a cobbler (Schuhmacher), settled in the Volga German colony of Shcherbakovka on 15 June 1765. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 9 along with his new wife, Maria Dorothea.

The 1767 census records that Martin Kagel came from the German town of Königsberg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
