Discussion & Documentation

Peter Sommer, a farmer, his wife Kathairna, daughters (Maria, age 9; Katharina, age 6; Elisabeth, age 5¼; Barbara, age 2¼), and sister-in-law Anna [surname not recorded] (age 30) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 22 August 1766 aboard a galliot named Die Vergoldete Weintraube (The Guilded Grape) under the command of Skipper Joachim Hermann Andersen.

Peter Sommer, a craftsman (Handwerker), his wife Katharina, and daughters (Elisabeth, age 11½; Katharina, age 8; Margaretha, age 7) are recorded on the 1767 census of Walter in Household No. 45. They had arrived in Walter on 25 August 1767.

The 1767 census recorded that Peter Sommer came from the German village of Gonterskirchen in the Laubach region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Sommer family among the Volga German colonies.
