Christian Riesch, a merchant (Kaufmann), and his wife Katharina settled in the Volga German colony of Beauregard on 27 August 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 1 along with stepson, Johann Friedrich Wolf.

The 1767 census also identifies Christian Riesch as the mayor (Schulz) of the colony of Beauregard.

The 1767 census records that Christian Riesch came from the German region of Gotha in Sachsen (Saxony).
