Discussion & Documentation

Anton Meier, his wife Elisabeth, and children (Anna, age 10; Anton, age 1) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard an English frigate under the command of Skipper Adam Beerfeier.

Anthon Meyer [sic], his wife Elisabeth, and daughter Anna Maria (age 16¼) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that wife Elisabeth died en route.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Susannental on 3 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 3.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Anton Meier was a stonemason while the 1767 census records that he was a weaver (Weber).

The 1767 census records that Anton Meier came from the German village of Rodheim in Hessen.
