Michael Schönknecht, a baker (Bäcker), and his wife Katharina settled in the Volga German colony of Beauregard on 27 August 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 25.

In 1797, Friedrich Schönknecht moved from Beauregard to Bettinger.

The 1767 census records that Michael Schönknecht came from the German town of Danzig.
