The death of Anna Eliesabetha Helwig, 1¼-year-old daughter of Johann Peter Helwig from Obern Breidenbach [sic] in the region of Romrodt, is recorded on 8 May 1766 in the parish register of the Lutheran Church in Büdingen.
Peter Helwig, a farmer, and his wife Elisabeth arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard the barque named Fortitudo under the command of Skipper John Scott.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Kraft on 18 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 11.
Johann Peter Helwig and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Kraft in Household No. Kf51.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Peter Helwig came from the German region of Darmstadt while the 1767 census records that he came from the region of Alsfeld.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Helwig family among the Volga German colonies.
