Discussion & Documentation

Hans Martin Wegert, a farmer, his wife Anna Barbara, and daughter Maria Agnes (age 2) immigrated to Denmark, arriving in the city of Flensburg on 29 May 1762. They are last recorded in Denmark on 12 January 1765.

They joined the migration to Russia settling in the Volga German colony of Galka on 12 April 1766. They are recorded on the 1767 census of Galka in Household No. 41.

The 1767 census records that Martin Wegner [sic] came from the German village of Helenhof in the region of Kurpfalz. A researcher named Albert reports on the forum of wolgadeutsche.net that this Wegert family came originally from Helmhof in Baden-Württemberg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
