Discussion & Documentation

Hans Michael Schorg, a farmer, and his wife immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein), arriving in Flensburg on 30 January 1762.

The baptism of Johann Jakob Sturg [sic], son of Johann Michael Sturg, is recorded in Bredevad, Byderup Parish, on 16 May 1763.

They deserted the Danish colonies on 25 May 1765 and joined the migration to Russia.

Johann Michael Schorg, a farmer, his wife Regina Magdalena, and children (Michael, age 14; Johann, age 6; Magdalena, age 4) are recorded on the 1767 census of Reinwald in Household No. 44. They had settled there on 14 July 1766.

Widow Regina Schorg and her children are recorded on the 1798 census of Reinwald in Household No. Rw51. It is believed that the Michael Asard whose widow and children are recorded on the 1798 census of Reinwald in Household No. Rw42 is actually Michael (junior) Schorg.

The death of Johann Schorch is recorded in the parish register of Reinwald on 29 October 1821 at the age of 57 years, 4 months along with a note that he had been born in the village of Eckbeck in the German region of Holstein.

The 1767 census records that Johann Michael Schorg came from the German village of Schleiz in Sachsen (Saxony).

[Some translations have used the surname of Schorch for this family.]
