Discussion & Documentation

An article by Wilhelm Funk records the following going to Russia:

Albrecht Ludwig Friedrich Borel from Erlang, & Eva Elisab. Hübner from Zwickershausen, both Lutheran, were married on 25 April 1766 in the Lutheran Church in Wöhrd.

Albrecht [Friedrich] Borell, his wife Elisabeth, and stepdaughter Elisabeth (whose surname is not recorded) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 24 July 1766 aboard a barque named Georg under the command of Skipper Adam Bairnsfair.

Albrecht Borell, his wife Elisabeth, and [step-]daughter Elisabeth [surname not recorded] (age 9) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They arrived in the Volga German colony of Beauregard on 3 August 1767 and are recorded there on an appendix to the 1767 census in Household No. 11 along with a note indicating that they relocated to the colony of Schaffhausen in 1768.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Albrecht Borell was a farmer from the German region of Bayreuth. The 1767 census records that Albrecht Friedrich Borell was a weaver (Weber) from the German village of Erlangen.

There are no known surviving male descendants of this Borell family among the Volga German colonies.
