Johann Mattheus Müller, son of Johann Wilhelm Müller & Anna Barbara Sauerwein, was born 26 February 1717 in Altheim. He married in Semd to Elisabeth Maus, daughter of Conrad Maus. They had 2 children born in Semd: (1) Johann Adam in October 1740 and (2) Eva Elisabeth on 13 February 1743. They had two additional children in Altheim: (1) Johann Georg on 26 June 1745 and (2) Johannes on 16 July 1748, who died at age 3. On 21 January 1752, they had an additional daughter who was stillborn, and the mother died also on 25 January 1752. Johann Mattheus remarried on 4 July 1752 to Magdalene Gießinger who was also from Semd. They had the following children: (1) Anna Elisabth, born 12 April 1753, died 31 January 1754; (2) Johann Heinrich, born 27 March 1756, died 13 August 1821; (3) Johann Georg, born 11 January 1758; (4) Marie Margarethe, born 7 June 1759; (5) Anna Regina, born 13 May 1761; (6) Johann Conrad, born 4 June 1762 [who served as a soldier with the Hanauer Freicorps in America], died 15 March 1782; (7) Georg Ludwig, born 29 November 1764, died 12 December 1764; (8) Johann Philipp, born 10 May 1766; and (9) Anna Elisabeth, born 21 April 1768. Johann Mattheus Müller died in Altheim on 1 July 1794.
On 2 March 1766, oldest son Johann Adam Müller married in Reinheim to Maria Margaretha Vonderschmitt. On 4 March 1766, Johann Adam, his new wife, and his oldest brother Johann Georg left Altheim for Russia.
Johann Adam Müller, his wife Maria Margaretha, and his brother Johann Georg arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the galliot Die Fortuna under the command of Skipper Peter Stahl.
