Wenzel Hauptmann, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard an English barque named George under the command of Skipper Adam Bairnsfair.
Wentzel Hauptmann is recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
He settled in the Volga German colony of Ober-Monjou on 7 June 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 93.
Wenzel Hauptmann (age 45), his wife Anna Maria née Duyrat (widow Schütz) (age 45), and step-children (Anna Maria Schütz, age 18; Margaretha Wilhelmina, age 15; Joseph Peter, age 8) are recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 66 along with a note that Wenzel Hauptmann died 21 August 1776 and Joseph Schütz died 11 July 1777.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Wenzel Hauptmann came from the region of Dessau. The 1767 census records that Wenzel Hauptmann came from the German village of Benschelent [?] in the Dessau region. The 1776 Katharinenstadt Land Register records that Wenzel Hauptmann came from the German village of Erfurt in the region of Thüringen.
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
