Discussion & Documentation

Kaspar Buschau, a farmer, his wife Kunigunda, and children (Hans Michael, age 12; Veronika, age 8; Paul, age 5; Theresia, age 2¼) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 16 August 1766 aboard a galliot named Adler (Eagle) under the command of Skipper Paul Adolph Drath.

Caspar Bischau, his wife Cunigunda, and son Paul (age 5) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Paul died in route.

They arrived in the Volga German colony of Seelmann on 5 September 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 55.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Kaspar Buschau came from the German region of Würzburg. The 1767 census records that Kaspar Buschau came from the German village of Kissingen [?] in the Würzburg region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Buschau family among the Volga German colonies.
