Discussion & Documentation

Carl Christian Westingsheim & Anna Katharina Köhler were married 15 July 1766 in Pastor Schmidt's house in Lübeck.

Karl Westingshausen [sic], a hat maker (Hutmacher), and his wife Anna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard an English frigate under the command of Skipper Adam Beerfeier.

Carl Westingshaussen [sic] and his wife Catharina are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 3 August 1767 and Karl Christian Westhausen [sic] is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 128 along with his new wife Friederika. A note on the 1767 census also records that they relocated to the colony of Boisroux in 1768.

The Movement Tables that accompany the 1798 census of Boisroux record that in 1778, widow Christina Viertinghausen [sic] went to Moscow and died in Bettinger on the return trip. She may have been yet another wife of Karl Westinghausen.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Karl Christian Westingshausen came from the German region of Mecklenburg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
