Discussion & Documentation

Charles Vernotte, a horse veternarian (Roßarzt), his wife Françoise, and children (Françoise, age 10; Karolina Josephina, age 5½; Charles, age 2) are recorded on the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 112. They had settled there on 27 August 1766.

The 1767 census records that Charles Varnotte came from the town of Liège in Belgium.

Dr. Plehve's translation of the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt suggests that this surname could be Warnold.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
