Jean Barat, a single surgeon (Feldscher), settled in the Volga German colony of Franzosen on 15 September 1767. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 67.
The 1767 census records that Jean Barat came from the French village of Labor.
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
