Johann Schellhase (age 35), a tailor (Schneider), arrived in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 27 August 1766. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 103 along with his [new] wife Elisabeth née Grünemeier (age 21) and two children (Christian Adolph, age 1; Johann Friedrich, age 1-month).
Johannes Scheelsahl (age 37), and his wife Elisabeth née Grünemeier, and children (Christian Adolph, age 9; Anna Maria, age 6; Johann Friedrich, age 2½) are recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 86 along with a note that they are beurlaubt [on leave] in Moor.
The 1767 census records that Johann Schellhase came from the town of Amsterdam in Holland. The 1776 Katharinenstadt Land Register records that Johannes Scheelsahl came from the village of Kaisers-Lutre [Kaiserslautern] in the Pfalz region and his wife came from Büren near Paderborn.
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
