Discussion & Documentation

Jean Baptiste Batterie, a cook (Koch), and his wife Anna Maria settled in the Volga German colony of Franzosen on 26 August 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 56 along with a note that he is working as a day-laborer for Director de Boffe.

The 1767 census records that Jean Baptiste Batterie came from the French village of Are.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
