Johannes Andreas Schmidt, a tailor (Schneider), and his family arrived in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 27 August 1766. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 7 along with his new wife, Maria Eva née Voigt, and her children from a previous marriage: Kunigunde Wendel (age 16) and Johann Gottfried Wendel (age 5). Andreas Schmidt (age 40), a blacksmith (Schmieder), his wife Judith Eva Maria née Voigt (widow Wendel) (age 50), children (Andreas Friedrich, age 10; Judith Elisabeth, age 7), and step-son Johann Gottfried Wendel (age 14) are recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 5.
The 1767 census records that Johannes Andreas Schmidt came from the German village of Streetz in Sachsen (Saxony). The 1776 Katharinenstadt Land Register records that Andreas Schmidt came from the German village of Streetz in Sachsen (Saxony) and that his wife came from the village of Alsterbach in the Pfalz region.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Schmidt family among the Volga German colonies.
