Discussion & Documentation

Three are 2 Rundau families that arrived together from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 25 July 1766 aboard the snow-brig named Maria Sophia under the command of Skipper Johann Bauert. Their relationship to each other, if any, needs further research.

(1) Johann Rundau, a farmer, his wife Apollonia, and son Johann (age 8) arrived in Oranienbaum.

Johannes Rundau, his wife Apollonia, and son Hans Georg (age 8) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that both mother Apollonia and son Hans Georg died en route.

Widower Johann Rundau, a farmer, is recorded on the 1767 census of Seelmann in Household No. 83 along with a note that his wife had died on 20 September 1767. They had settled there on 24 August 1767.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Rundau came from the German village of Bener?. The 1767 census records that Johann Rundau came from the German village of Züschen in the Hessen-Kassel region.

(2) Lorenz Rundau, a farmer, and his wife Ursula arrived in Oranienbaum.

Lorentz Rundau and his wife Ursula are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Seelmann on 16 August 1767 where they are recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 64.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Lorenz Rundau came from Bener?. The 1767 census records that Lorenz Rundau came from the German village of Giterwike [?] in the German region of Birk.
