Discussion & Documentation

Jacob Rolsingnol, a winemaker (Vigneron), age 24, is recorded on a list of French colonists dated September 1764.

Jacques Rolsingnole, a farmer, his wife Margaretha Zerkla, and his son Jacques Bertram settled in the Volga German colony of Franzosen on 28 July 1765. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 10.

The 1764 colonist list records that Jacob Rossignol came from the French region of Beauce. The 1767 census records that Jacques Rolsinghole came from the French town of Chartres.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
