Discussion & Documentation

Robert LeRouge, a plowman (Laboureur) and cobbler (Cordonnier), age 24, is recorded on a list of French colonists dated September 1764.

Robert Rerouge [sic], a cobbler (Schuhmacher), and his wife Anna Sophia settled in the Volga German colony of Franzosen on 28 July 1765. They and their son Jean Luis (age 1) are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 24.

The 1764 list of colonists records that Robert LeRouge came from the French region of Picardy. The 1767 census records that Robert Rerouge [sic] came from the French village of Copelme [?].

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
