Serin Howald, a suede master (German: Sämischgerber; Russian: мастер замшевый), and his wife Anna arrived from Lübeck via Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 27 May 1766 aboard a pinque named Слон (Slon - Elephant in Russian) under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Warenburg on 12 May 1767. Serin is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 102 along with a note that he was widowed on 24 August 1767.
Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Serin Howald came from the city of Copenhagen in Denmark.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Howald family among the Volga German colonies.
