Discussion & Documentation

Joachim Herter, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Joachim Herter is recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

He is recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Nieder-Monjou (No. 12) along with his new wife Maria. The 1798 census of Näb records Joachim Herter in Household No. Nb19.

The 1767 census records that Joachim Herter came from the German village of Malchin in the Mecklenburg region.
