Jean Grapeau, a farmer, and his wife Anna settled in the Volga German colony of Franzosen on 16 May 1766. They and their daughter Magdalena (age 1) are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 44.

The 1767 census records that Jean Grapeau came from the French village of Naujan.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
