Michael Bender, a farmer, and his wife Margaretha settled in the Volga German colony of Kamenka on 28 April 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 62 along with their new-born son Georg Friedrich (age ½-year).
Joseph Bender, son of Michael Bender, is recorded on the 1798 census of Kamenka in Household No. Km051.
Joseph Bender, stepson of Peter Flehr and presumed son of Joseph Bender, is recorded on the 1834 census of Kamenka in Household No. 46 along with a note that he relocated to the colony of Schönchen.
The 1767 census records that Michael Bender came from the German village of Heilbronn.
