Heinrich Dergans, his wife Elisabeth, and son Johann (age 4) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard an English frigate under the command of Skipper Adam Beerfeier.
Joh. Heinrich Dergans, his wife Elisabetha, and children (Johannes, age 4; Maria Elisabetha, age ¼) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Nieder-Monjou on 3 August 1767.
Elisabeth died and Heinrich remarried to another Elisabeth, the widow of Georg Ries. The combined Dergans / Ries family is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 29 along with a note that they relocated to the colony of Beauregard in 1768.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Heinrich Dergans was a tailor while the 1767 census records that he was a farmer.
Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Heinrich Dergans came from the German region of Darmstadt.
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
