Christian Mattern, a gardner (Gärtner), his wife Maria, and children (Johann, age 19; Tobias, age 15; Friedrich, age 10; Susanna, age 9; Katharina, age 7) arrived from Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum aboard the pink Slon under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Warenburg on 12 May 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 26.
They 1767 census records that Christian Mattern came from the German village of Butzbach in the Darmstadt region.
