Discussion & Documentation

Johannes Schæffer & Catharina Helffert [sic] were marrried on 10 March 1766 in Büdingen.

Johann[es] Schäfer and his wife Katharina [Hellferich] arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard an English frigate named Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Göbel on 20 June 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 26.

In 1788, Johannes Schäfer and his wife moved from Göbel to Pfeifer.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Schäfer came from the German region of Fulda. The 1767 census records that Johannes Schäfer came from the German village of Margretenhaun in the Fulda region.
