Scherer (Warenburg)

Johann Andreas Scherer, a stone mason, married Maria Eva [sometimes recorded as Maria Salome] on 5 October 1741 in the Reformed Church in Pfeffelbach.

The following children to Andreas & Maria Eva Scherer were born and baptized in Pfeffelbach: (1) Maria Rosina, born 28 September 1742; (2) Johann Nickel, born 21 February 1747, died 26 May 1749; and (3) Johann Nicolaus, born 18 November 1749.

Maria Eva Scherer died on 22 April 1753 and was buried on 23 April 1753.

Johann Andreas remarried on 6 August 1754 in Pfeffelbach to Maria Angelica Morgenstern, daughter of Nickel Morgenstern.

The births of the following children of Johann Andreas Scherer & Maria Angelica Morgenstern are recorded in the parish register of Pfeffelbach: (1) Maria Sarah, born 11 June 1755; (2) Anna Elisabeth, born 29 May 1757; (3) Anna Catharina, born 18 September 1759; (4) Juliana Catharina, born 10 January 1762; and (5) Maria Catharina, born 12 July 1765.

The oldest daughter Maria Rosina married 10 July 1764 in Pfeffelbach to Johann Heinrich Bier.

Andreas Scherer, a farmer, his wife Maria, and children (Johann, age 17½; Sarah, age 13; Elisabeth, age 11; Maria, age 9; Julianna, age 7; Katharina, age 1) arrived from Reval at the port of Oranienbaum aboard the pink Slon under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov along with Maria Rosina and her husband.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Warenburg on 12 May 1767.

Andreas died and his widow remarried Jakob Roth. The combined Roth-Scherer family is recorded on the 1767 census of Warenburg in Household No. 3.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Andreas Scherer came from the German region of Zweibrücken.
