Ehrhard [sic] Schmidt, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck via Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 25 May 1766 aboard a pink named Новая Двинка (New Dvinka [a river in Russia]) under the command of Lieutenant Ivan Perepechin.
He settled in the Volga German colony of Göbel on 25 May 1767. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 69 under the name Bernhardt Schmidt along with his [new] wife Eva Hoffmann (age 24). [See Hoffmann Family.]
The 1798 census of Göbel records his name as Gerhard.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Ehrhard [sic] Schmidt came from the German region of Bamberg. The 1767 census records that Bernhardt [sic] Schmidt came from the German village of Ebensfeld in the Bamberg region.
