Balthasar Happel, a farmer, his wife Margaretha, and children (Maria, age 20; Anna, age 16; Jakob, age 14; Marianna, age 12; Eva, age 10) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a galliot named Concordia under the command of Skipper Jakob Bauert.
The surviving children (Anna Maria, age 17; Jakob, age 14; Maria Eva, age 12) settled in the Volga German colony of Pfeifer on 15 June 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 32 along with the Anton Sommer family. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Happel and Sommer families.
Jakob Happel from Pfeifer and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Franzosen in Household No. Fz38. [Some translations have this surname mis-translated as Göbel on this census.]
Jakob Happel and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Franzosen in Household No. 16 along with a note that they relocated to the colony of Husaren. Jakob Happel from Franzosen and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Husaren in Household No. 66.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Balthasar Happel came from the German region of Mainz. The 1767 census records that the children came from the German village of Aschaffenburg (which at the time was part of the Bishopric of Mainz).
