Discussion & Documentation

Johann Adam Hoffman from Gelnhaar married on 20 October 1757 in Wenings to Anna Margaretha [surname not recorded].

The baptisms of four children were recorded in the Wenings parish records: (1) Anna Elisabeth, born 24 March 1759; (2) Johann Heinrich, born 9 June 1761; (3) Johannes, born 30 September 1763; and (4) Anna Catharina, born 15 October 1765.

Johann Adam Hoffmann, a farmer, his wife Anna Margaretha, and children (Elisabeth, age 7½; Johann Heinrich, age 5; Johann, age 3; Katharina, age ¾) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 16 August 1766 aboard a galliot named Frau Diederika (Lady Diederika) under the command of Skipper Johann Joachim Lunau.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Hussenbach according to researcher Susan Hopp Nakaji.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Adam Hoffmann came from the German region of Isenburg.
