Discussion & Documentation

Georg Heinrich Engel, son of Johann Conrad Engel & Anna Margaretha Ehring, was born 1 April 1732 and baptized 6 April 1732 in Hailer.

He married on 7 November 1765 in Hailer to Anna Margaretha Heil, daughter of Johann Peter Heil & Anna Catharina Weber. She had been born in Hailer on 7 June 1745. [See Heil Family.]

Georg Heinrich Engel, a farmer, his wife Anna Margaretha, and son Konrad (age ¼) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 August 1766 aboard the pink Slon under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov along with Anna Margaretha's parents and brother.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Balzer on 8 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 96.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census records that Georg Heinrich Engel came from the German region of Isenburg.
