Philipp Schäfer, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 25 August 1766 aboard the ship Apollo under the command of Skipper Friedrich Detloff Mörenberg.
He settled in the Volga German colony of Walter on 25 August 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 57 along with his new wife Dorothea.
The 1767 census records that Philipp Schäfer came from the German village of Willsbach near Löwenstein in the Erbach region.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Schäfer family among the Volga German colonies.
