Discussion & Documentation
Friedrich Hammel, a farmer, his wife Anna Katharina, and daughter Anna Barbara (age 10) are recorded on the 1767 census of Messer in Household No. 24 along with stepson Jakob Dinkelacker (age 17). They had settled there on 7 July 1766.
The 1767 census records that Friedrich Hammel came from the German village of Golisch [?] and that his wife Anna Katharina came from the German region of Durlach.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Hammel family among the Volga German colonies.
