Discussion & Documentation:

Johann Casper Keipp (1 December 1709 - 28 July 1776) & Anna Maria Eiffert (14 June 1713 - 9 September 1771) had several children whose births are recorded in the parish registers of Zahmen, among whom are (1) Johann Heinrich, born 19  September 1734; (2) Anna Maria Margaretha, born 8 March 1736, died 12 June 1736; (3) Anna Margaretha, born 23 September 1737, died 3 Juy 1759; (4) Johann Jacob (A), born 21 September 1739, (5) Anna Margaretha, born 8 May 1741; (6) Johann Jacob (B), born 1 April 1744; (7) Johann Valentin, born 19 November 1746, died 20 August 1761; (8) Johann Heinrich, born 17 September 1749; (9) Johann Heinrich, born 17 December 1751; (10) Johannes, born 8 September 1754; (11) Anna Catharina, born 19 April 1758, died 13 April 1761; and (12) Anna Elisabeth, born 7 April 1762.

[Johann] Jakob Keib (B) married Gerdrauth Schaaff on 10 May 1766 in Büdingen. Gertrude Schaff, daughter of Johann Valentin Schaff, had been born 29 September 1737 in neighboring Altenschlirf. [See Schaff Family.]

Jakob (B), a farmer, & his wife Gertruda along with brother Jakob (A) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard the galliot Johannes under the command of Skipper Stahl. Traveling with them is Gertruda's father Valentin Schaff and [her sister] Anna Julianna.

Jacob Kaip [sic] and his wife Gertrud are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767. Gertrud's father Valentin Schaff and sister Anna Julianna (age 20) are also travelling with them [a note records that Valentin Schaff died in route].  Another Jacob Keip [sic] "Senior" is recorded travelling with them.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Hussenbach where Jakob (B) [erroneously recorded with surname of Keit] is recorded on the 1798 census in Household No. Hs005 and Jakob (A) is recorded in Household No. Hs073.

The Büdingen marriage register records that Jakob Keipp is from "Zahmen in the area of Riedesel" and that Gertrauth Schaaff is from "Altenschlerff." The Oranienbaum passenger list records that both Jakob Keibs came from the German region of Riedesel.
