Michael Klaus, a craftsman (Handwerker), his wife Anna Margaretha, and daughter Katharina Louisa (age 12) settled in the Volga German colony of Stahl am Karaman on 10 June 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 28.

The 1767 census records that Michael Klaus came from the German village of Büdingen in the Isenburg region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Klaus family among the Volga German colonies.
