Discussion & Documentation

Melchior Müller, a farmer, and his wife Margaretha [Hartwig] arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 24 July 1766 aboard a barque named Georg under the command of Skipper Adam Bairnsfair.

Melchior Müller and his wife Margaretha are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Melchior Müller, a window maker (Fensterbauer), his wife Margaretha née Hartwig, and stepson Franz Utre [du Vertre] (age 17) are recorded on the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 147. They had arrived in Katharinenstadt on 3 August 1767.

Melchior Müller (age 37), a glazier (Glaser), his wife Margaretha née Hartwig (widow Utre [du Vertre]), and stepson Franz du Vertre (age 17) are recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 133 along with a note that Margaretha Müller née Hartwig died 21 June 1774. There also appears to be a note that stepson Franz du Vertre married 2 February 1784 to Margaretha Elisabeth [surname not recorded]. [See du Vertre Family.]
