Discussion & Documentation

There are two Becker families that arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard the ship Die Jungfer Friederika under the command of Skipper Hans Christian Korsholm. Their relationship to each other, if any, needs further research.

(1) Nikolaus Becker, a farmer, his wife Sabina, and brother-in-law Daniel [Schmidt] (age 16¼) arrived in Oranienbaum.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Straub on 12 May 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 51. A note on the 1767 census records that Sabina died in Straub on 8 October 1767.

(2) Philipp Becker, a farmer, and his wife Anna arrived in Oranienbaum.

They have not been located among the Volga German colonies.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that these two Becker families came from the German region of Pfalz. The 1767 census records that Nikolaus Becker came from the German village of Wintersheim in the Kurpfalz region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Becker family among the Volga German colonies.
