There are two Diehl families that arrived from Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 30 May 1766 aboard the pink Lopamink under the command of Lieutenant Kryukov and settled in the Volga German colony of Keller on 12 May 1767. The relationship of these two Diehl families is recorded on neither the Oranienbaum passenger list nor the 1767 census.
(1) Johann[es] Diehl, his wife Elisabeth, and son Paul (age 4) arrived in Oranienbaum and are recorded on the 1767 census of Keller in Household No. 51. The 1767 census records that Johannes Diehl came from the German village of Rothenbach in the Kurmainz region.
(2) Johann Diehl, his wife Anna, and children (Wilhelm, age 16½; Mathias, age 12; Katharina, age 10½; Johann, age 4) arrived in Oranienbaum. The surviving children (Katharina, age 11; Karl, age 5) are recorded on the 1767 census of Keller in Household No. 49 along with their stepfather Kaspar Adam.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Diehl came from the German region of Mainz.
