Discussion & Documentation

Johann Georg Idt, son of Johann Adam Idt & Anna Barbara Schmidt, was born 3 May 1745 in Hüttengesäß.

Johann [Georg] Idt, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard the galliot named Kronshlot under the command of Skipper Ivan Kunakovskii.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Balzer on 1 July 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 84 along with his [new] wife Katharina [Kromm], believed to be the widow of Caspar Kromm. [See Kromm Family.]

Katharina Kromm, daughter of Ernst & Engel Katharina Kromm, had been born in Hüttengesäß on 6 February 1749.

The widow and children of Georg Idt are recorded on the 1798 census of Balzer in Household No. Bz064.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census records that Johann Georg Idt came from the German region of Isenburg.
