There are two Wachtel men who traveled together to the Volga German colonies. Their relationship to each other, if any, needs further research.
(1) Joseph Wachtler, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 24 July 1766 aboard a barque named Georg under the command of Skipper Adam Bairnsfair.
Joh. Joseph Wachtler and his [new] wife Maria Elis. are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
It is not known in which colony he settled.
(2) Georg Wachtler, a single man, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 24 July 1766 aboard a barque named Georg under the command of Skipper Adam Bairnsfair.
Joh. Georg Wachtler is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
Georg Wachtel, a single cobbler (Schuhmacher), is recorded on the 1767 census of Bettinger in Household No. 8. He had arrived in Bettinger on 3 August 1767.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Georg Wachtel came from the German region of Fulda. The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Gilbstett [?].
