Discussion & Documentation

Georg [Heinrich] Helm, his wife Anna, and son Johann (age 6) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard an English frigate under the command of Skipper Adam Beerfeier.

Georg Heinrich Helm, his wife Anna Cunigunda, and son Johannes (age 6) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Bettinger on 3 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 22.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Georg Helm was a weaver from the German region of Darmstadt. The 1767 census records that Georg Heinrich Helm was a farmer from the German village of Strebendorf.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Helm family among the Volga German colonies.
