Discussion & Documentation

Johann Ziegler, a farmer, and his wife Anna Margaretha arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 August 1766 aboard the Russian galliot Strelna under the command of Lieutenant Sornev.

Johann Ziegler, a farmer, his wife Margaretha, and son Georg Heinrich (age ½) are recorded on the 1767 census of Pfeifer in Household No. 63 along with three orphaned Strömel children. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Ziegler and Strömel families. They had settled in Pfeifer on 20 August 1767.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census records that Johann Ziegler came from the German region of Würzburg.
