There are 3 Illingen families affiliated with the Volga German colony of Frank. They are believed to be father and children, but further research is needed to confirm this relationship. They arrived from Lübeck at the port in Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard the galliot Johannes under the command of Skipper Stahl.
(1) Johann Georg Illingen, a farmer, his wife Margaretha, and daughter Klara (age 19) arrived in Oranienbaum. [Plehve's translation of the Oranienbaum passenger list records this surname as Kling.]
Johann George Iling [sic], his wife Margaretha, and daughter Maria Elisabeth (age 20) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Margaretha died in route.
Widower Johann Illingen (age 70), a farmer, is recorded on the 1767 census of Frank in Household No. 35.
Daughter Klara Elisabeth [née Illingen] (age 19) is believed recorded on the 1767 census of Frank in Household No. 33 as the wife of Andreas Zeiler.
(2) [Anna] Dorothea Illingen, daughter of Johann Georg Illingen from Salzungen, & Conrad Müller from Salzungen were married on 23 June 1766 in the Lutheran Church of Büdingen.
Conrad Müller, a farmer, his wife Anna Dorothea [née Illingen], and his sister Anna Margaretha (age 18) arrived in Oranienbaum.
Anna Dorothea [née Illinger] (age 22) and her husband Konrad Müller are recorded on the 1767 census of Frank in Household No. 36.
(3) Johann Kaspar Illingen, a weaver, his wife Susanna, and daughters (Anna Katharina, age 6; Anna Elisabeth, age 4; Anna Maria, age 1) arrived in Oranienbaum.
Joh. Caspar Iling [sic], his wife Susanna Magdal., and daughters (Anna Catharina, age 6; Elisabeth, age 4; Anna Martha [sic], age 1) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
Johann Kaspar Illingen, a craftsman (Handwerker), his wife Susanna Magdalena, and daughters (Anna Katharina, age 6; Anna Elisabeth, age 4; Anna Maria, age 2) are recorded on the 1767 census of Frank in Household No. 32. [Plehve's translation of the 1767 census records this surname as Schmick.]
Johann Kaspar Illingen and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Frank in Household No. Fk110.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that all of these Illingen families came from the German region of Sachsen (Saxony). The 1767 census records that Johann Georg Illingen and Conrad Müller came from the German village of Selzich in Sachsen (Saxony) and that Johann Kaspar Illingen came from the German town of Salzing in the region of Saxony. According to the Büdingen marriage register the name of this town is Salzungen.
There are no known surviving male descendants of this family among the Volga German colonies.
