Discussion & Documentation

Paul Greif, a farmer, his wife Magdalena, and children (Johann [Heinrich], age 20; Agnes, age 16½; Elisabeth, age 9) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 30 May 1766 aboard the pink Novaya Dvinka under the command of Lieutenant Ivan Perepechin.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Frank in 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 4.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Paul Greif was Catholic from the German region of Bamberg. The 1767 census records that he was Lutheran from the German village of Schezler in the Würzburg region.
