Joachim Otto, a merchant (Kaufmann), his wife Christina Elisabeth, and sons (Johann Christian, age 18; Johann Georg, age 16) are recorded on the 1767 census of Dreispitz in Household No. 1 where he is recorded as the mayor (Vorsteher) of the colony. They had settled in Dreispitz on 16 September 1766.

The 1767 census records that Joachim Otto came from the German village of Franzburg in Schwedisch Pommern (Swedish Pommerania).
