Ludwig Sander, a button maker (Knopfmacher), his wife Dorothea, and daughter Katharina (age 20), arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 20 August 1766 aboard a ship named Der Friede (Peace) under the command of Skipper Hans Karck.
Ludwig Sander and his daughter Catharina (age 20) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Catharina died in route.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 3 August 1767. Widower Ludwig Sander is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 187.
The 1767 census records that Ludwig Sander came from the German village of Heide in the Holstein region.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Sander family among the Volga German colonies.
