Hans Michael Kolkepp, a single tailor (Schneider), arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 June 1766 aboard the ship Die Vergelte Weintraube under the command of Skipper Anderson.

He is recorded on the 1767 census of Seelmann in Household No. 15 along with his new wife Elisabeth and their new-born daughter (Maria Margaretha, age ¼). They had settled there on 15 July 1767.

In 1788, widow Elisabeth Kolkepp and her children moved from Seelmann to Neu-Kolonie.

The widow of Michael Kolgep from Seelmann and her children (Elisabeth, age 20; Christoph, age 17, Anna, age 12) are recorded on the 1798 census of Neu-Kolonie in Household No. Nk17.

Christoph Kolop (Колопъ) and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Neu-Kolonie in Household No. 56.

The death of Christoph Kotzlef (Коцьлефъ) in 1849 is recorded on the 1850 census of Neu-Kolonie in Household No. 102. His son Johannes Kolsef (Колсефъ) and family are recorded in Household No. 103.

The surname is consistently spelled as Kolgep (Кольгепъ) on the 1857 census of Neu-Kolonie in Households No. 72, 112, 113, & 116.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Hans Michael Kolkepp came from the German region of Würzburg. The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Hecken in the Kurmainz region.

This surname is also translated as Kolgen or Kolgst on some documents.
