Discussion & Documentation

Franz Utre [sic] (age 17) is recorded on the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 147 along with his stepfather Melchior Müller.

Melchior Müller, his wife Margaretha Hartwig, and stepson Franz Utre [du Vertre] (age 17) are recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 133 along with a note that Margaretha Müller née Hartwig died 21 June 1774. [See Müller Family.] There also appears to be a note that stepson Franz du Vertre married 2 February 1784 to Margaretha Elisabeth [surname not recorded].

Franz du Vertre and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. Ka127.

On 8 October 1802, colonist [widow] DuVetter [sic] of Katharinenstadt petitioned the Kontora [Office of Immigrant Oversight] for permission to accept into her household her son-in-law colonist [Christoph] Gref from Urbach. This indicates that Franz du Vertre must have died shortly before this date.

Christina TuWietter [sic], daughter of Franz du Vertre, is recorded on the 1850 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 384 as the wife of Christoph Gref.

There are no known surviving male lines of this du Vertre family among the Volga German colonies.

The 1767 census records that Franz Utre [sic] came from the Dutch town of Amsterdam in Holland. The 1776 Katharinenstadt Land Register records that Franz du Vertre came from Amsterdam.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
